2020 Year Recap – The Year of Social Distancing & Unrest

What’s something good that happened for you in 2020?

In a year of social distancing, anxiety, separation from family/loved ones, discrimination, injustice and a multitude of other things there’s no need to say that it was a difficult year for most of us. Looking back on this year there were both good and bad times for all of us. It was a year marked with confusion and uncertainty, but amidst these things, I am looking back on all the positive things that have happened in 2020. This is my 2020 year recap.

Here are my positive moments from 2020:

๐Ÿ’— Got a nice apartment and new furniture with Andrew

2020 was the year Andrew and I moved in together. I moved from an older, dark, non-updated apartment to a bright, new, upscale apartment. And Andrew moved from an outdated, dirty house in Augusta, GA. Now we are in the heart of Buckhead Atlanta which is known as the expensive, upscale part of town. We researched and purchased all new furniture which was super exciting, and moved in on my birthday which was a major highlight!

๐Ÿ’— Took a trip to Asheville, NC and the Blue Ridge Mountains

This was the “big” trip of the year. Originally it had been planned to take a tropical vacation to Punta Cana in May but clearly that did not happen. I have such a love for exploring and seeing all of nature’s wonders and beauty that traveling just about anywhere makes me happy. We ended up going to Asheville, NC and the Blue Ridge Mountains and had a wonderful time. Check out myย Asheville, North Carolina Travel Guide for ideas when visiting!

๐Ÿ’— Met my good friend Lola

As a fashion and lifestyle blogger, it is imperative that you have content to share consistently. Andrew was the easiest person to ask to take photos for me but sometimes he would be reluctant or moody about it. Luckily my good friend Lola (@lalalolabee) reached out to me and asked if I wanted to get photos together. After the first day we met, the rest is history. The two of us have been friends ever since and still get together to take photos for each other.

๐Ÿ’— Started my health & wellness business withย Arbonne

For anyone who doesn’t know, blogging is tedious, time consuming, and hardly makes you any money for awhile when starting out. Many bloggers like myself have a “9-to-5” job that to cover bills and expenses and then do blogging in their spare time. I have hardly been making money from blogging, so when my friend Monti (@montivanderwerf) reached out to me about an Arbonne business it seemed like a sensible way to make some extra money. Little did I know that I would fall in love with the products and they would help me to feel so much healthier! Not to mention, all products are clean, cruelty-free and non-toxic which cannot be said for many products we buy in stores. You can shop Arbonne’s clean healthy living atย JackieRiggs.arbonne.com.

๐Ÿ’— Designed, created and began my own Etsy shop & small businessย Gardenia Lane Boutique

Once again feeling like I wasn’t earning enough to be financially stable, I decided to create my own Etsy shop and boutique. The original idea was to screen print designs on T-shirts, but after a trial run that didn’t quite work out. Having a degree in fashion and experience sewing, I decided to make handmade hair scrunchies! I plan on expanding my boutique to other products soon as ideas arise. Shop my Etsy shopย here.

๐Ÿ’— Went to Hilton Head beach with friends

Travel was very limited in 2020, but Andrew and I were lucky to have the opportunity to take a trip to Hilton Head, SC with a few friends. I’ve been to Hilton Head a few times but it never gets old. And going to the beach is always fun! I was so grateful to be able to make this trip and look forward to more in the future.

๐Ÿ’— Got to hold an Emmy Award

Before all the COVID chaos began, I attended an ArtsBridge luncheon with my boss. One of the donors/partners had won an Emmy Award and had it on a table for everyone to see. They were so kind to let me hold it and get a photo (despite the awful lighting)!
